Ribbon Cutting & Groundbreaking Ceremony Highlights Community Milestone

Celebrating the opening of our new Maxwell Spring Water Fill Station and breaking ground on the Maxwell Park expansion, bringing pickleball courts, sports fields, and disc golf to our community.

Ribbon Cutting & Groundbreaking Ceremony

Yesterday marked a transformative moment for our community as we celebrated two major milestones: the ribbon cutting for our new Maxwell Spring Water Fill Station and the groundbreaking for the Maxwell Park expansion.

This project is funded through state appropriations and a Community Impact Board grant, and represents years of strategic planning and partnership. For too long, our families have had to drive hours away to access quality recreation facilities.

The Maxwell Park expansion will bring pickleball courts, a football field, refreshed baseball diamonds, and a disc golf course through natural vegetation, and so much more, allowing us to host tournaments, festivals, and celebrations right here at home.

Commissioner Gil Almquist captured the emotional weight of the moment: “I’ve sat right on that grass and cried, not only for the performers, but because of the last seven and a half years…the dedication you, your council, have for making this happen.” He noted how the community has shifted from looking backward to facing forward: “You’re in the driver’s seat.”

Senator Derrin Owens shared how he brought Senate President Adams to see Maxwell Park firsthand, asking what the state could do to show “you’re not forgotten, that you matter.” The result was unprecedented support for a community our size. “In a flat year to be able to get almost three and a half million…you matter and you’re not forgotten in Salt Lake City.”

Senator Don Ipson praised the fearless leadership that made it possible: “Your mayor was stalwart. She didn’t weaken. She took this head on with confidence, and the people of Hildale are blessed to have her leadership. She comes to the Capitol, and she represents you with honor. She’s listened to. She’s respected.”

Mayor Donia Jessop spoke to what Maxwell Park has always meant: “Maxwell Park has always been a place of unity, when unity was hard to find. This is not just about Hildale; this is about all of us together creating something beautiful.”

Surrounded by our majestic mountains, Maxwell Park will continue to keep families close to home, and be a place where everyone is welcome to gather on common ground.

Construction has started on Canyon Street and will continue up into the park, which will be closed temporarily towards the middle of October. The exact day will be posted as soon as we know it exactly. The spring water will be continually available throughout construction at the new fill station, located at the corner of Jessop Avenue and Louis Street.
